Wanna know what terrible technology is headed your way in the years ahead? Journalist and science fiction author Cory Doctorow says it’s not hard:
I’m Charlie Meyerson and on this Chicago Public Square podcast, Doctorow—visiting for the C2E2 pop-culture convention—talks about his collection of novellas, Radicalized: Four Tales of Our Present Moment.
But before you hear how it sounds as we sat down, at a kinda noisy Hilton Chicago, March 22, 2019, I wanna lift the curtain a bit:
This book made me break a personal policy. As an interviewer of authors, I'm reluctant to read the book before the interview—because I worry the interview will go down the rabbit hole, interviewer and interviewee talking about things you haven’t read and don’t know about. I prefer to come to these encounters aligned with you, the listener—not having read the book. But as I set out to skim "Radicalized," I got sucked in. I read it all, start to finish. I was—as they say—gripped. And not always in an enthusiastic, happy way. So I began by asking Doctorow how he feels about the future these days, because to read the book is to worry that he’s been a little, um, despondent lately…
